Description: Bannack State Park is about 25 miles west of Dillon, Montana off Hwy 278 and yes a large coach bus can reach this location via a short gravel road. Gold was discovered on Grasshopper Creek in July 1862 and the population grew to more than 3000 in 1864 when Bannack became Montana’s first Territorial Capital. Today, Bannack is a ghost town with well preserved buildings and ghost stories too. The vigilantes of Bannack enforced their law and used a secret code of 3-7-77 which is still used today on the patches of our Montana highway patrol. A well equipped campground and picnic area are available for your enjoyment. www.bannack.org
